The show follows a group of working class teenagers living in Liverpool as they navigate the ups and downs of adolescence. The main characters include Caz, a sassy and outspoken girl who is dealing with the recent loss of her father; Ste, a lovable but clueless lad who struggles with his sexuality; Jay, a charismatic and street-smart boy who constantly clashes with authority figures; and Leanne, a quiet and hardworking girl who faces challenges due to her lower class background.
Throughout the series, the teenagers deal with a variety of issues such as grief, sexuality, racism, and economic struggles. They form close friendships and rely on each other for support as they face the challenges of growing up in a tough environment.
