Tonia Haddix's favorite chimpanzee, named Jackson, has been with her for years and has formed a strong bond with her. However, as authorities become aware of Tonia's illegal possession of exotic animals, they launch an investigation into her activities.
Meanwhile, an animal rights group learns of Jackson's situation and believes he should be living in a sanctuary where he can be properly cared for and live a more natural life. They begin pressuring Tonia to give up custody of Jackson and allow him to be transferred to a more suitable environment.
As tensions rise between Tonia, the authorities, and the animal rights group, a thrilling cat-and-mouse game ensues as Tonia fights to keep Jackson by her side while also facing the consequences of her actions. Ultimately, Tonia must decide what is best for Jackson and whether she is willing to risk everything to protect him.
