Evel Knievel, played by himself in the film, is a famous stuntman known for his death-defying motorcycle jumps. In Viva Knievel!, he plans his most ambitious stunt yet - to jump over the Grand Canyon. However, his plans are complicated by a group of mobsters who are trying to sabotage his stunt and force him to become involved in their criminal activities.
As Evel battles the mobsters and their sinister leader, played by Leslie Nielsen, he also finds himself drawn to a troubled young boy named Tommy (played by Marjoe Gortner), who looks up to him as a hero. Evel takes Tommy under his wing and tries to steer him away from a life of crime.
As the date of Evel's jump approaches, the tension between him and the mobsters escalates, leading to a dramatic showdown at the Grand Canyon. Will Evel be able to overcome the odds and successfully complete his most dangerous stunt yet? And will he be able to protect Tommy from the dangers that surround them?
