Parasite is a 2019 South Korean black comedy thriller film directed by Bong Joon-ho, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Han Jin-won. The film follows the story of the impoverished Kim family, consisting of father Ki-taek, mother Chung-sook, son Ki-woo, and daughter Ki-jung, as they con their way into the lives of the wealthy Parks family.
Ki-woo poses as a highly skilled English tutor and is hired by the Parks for their teenage daughter, quickly realizing the family's vulnerability. Ki-jung takes advantage of this by posing as an art therapist for the Parks' young son, while their father Ki-taek becomes their driver and Chung-sook is hired as their housekeeper.
However, their newfound success crumbles as the Kims become entangled in an unexpected and shocking incident, leading to a dramatic conclusion that questions societal hierarchy and class disparity. The film received critical acclaim for its nuanced portrayal of social inequality and has won numerous awards, including the Palme d'Or at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival and four Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film.
