In the movie Drive, Ryan Gosling plays "Driver", a skilled stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver for heists. When he becomes attracted to his female neighbor Irene (played by Carey Mulligan), he becomes involved in her husband's troubles.
Irene's husband, Standard (played by Oscar Isaac), owes money to a local gangster named Bernie Rose (played by Albert Brooks). In an effort to help Standard repay his debt, Driver agrees to participate in a robbery with Standard and some other criminals. However, the heist goes wrong and Standard is killed, leaving Driver to fend for himself.
As he tries to navigate the dangerous underworld of Los Angeles, Driver is pursued by both Bernie Rose and a police detective (played by Bryan Cranston) who becomes suspicious of his involvement in the robbery. Along the way, he must also protect Irene and her young son from the dangers that he has unwittingly brought into their lives.
Drive is known for its stylish visuals, intense action sequences, and atmospheric soundtrack. The film received critical acclaim for its direction by Nicolas Winding Refn and Gosling's performance, earning numerous award nominations including an Academy Award nomination for Best Sound Editing.
